Find answers to common questions about BailEdu courses, requirements, and the completion process.

Getting Started

How do I enroll in a course?

+

Enrollment is simple and free. Visit our Courses page, select the course you want to take, and click "Start This Course Free." You'll create a free account with your email address and basic information. Once registered, you'll have immediate access to begin the course. No payment is required until after you successfully pass the final exam.

How do I launch a course? How do I restart a course that I left without completing?

+

To launch a course for the first time, log into your account at course.bailedu.com and click on the course tile from your dashboard. Your progress is automatically saved, so if you leave and return later, simply log back in and click "Continue Course" to pick up exactly where you left off. All your completed sections and quiz scores are preserved.

Do I need any special software or equipment?

+

No special software is required. Our courses work on any device with internet access and a modern web browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge). You can complete courses on your desktop computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone. We recommend using a larger screen for the best reading experience, but the platform is fully mobile-responsive.

Course Requirements & Details

How many hours of CE must I complete to meet the CE requirement for renewing my license?

+

California requires 12 hours of continuing education every two years for bail agent license renewal. Each of our courses is 6 hours, so you must complete both courses to meet the full 12-hour requirement. You can take the courses in any order and complete them at your own pace.

How long are the courses?

+

Each course is 6 hours of instruction. Most students complete a 6-hour course in one sitting, but you're free to work at your own pace. You can start, stop, and resume anytime—your progress is automatically saved. There's no time limit to complete a course once you've enrolled.

Do I have to take all of the required twelve hours at one time?

+

No. You can complete the two 6-hour courses separately, in any order, and on any schedule that works for you. Many students complete one course, then return days or weeks later to complete the second course. Your progress in each course is saved independently, so you have complete flexibility in how you meet the 12-hour requirement.

What is the difference between a Bail Agent and a Bail Fugitive Recovery Agent?

+

A Bail Agent (also called a bail bondsman) is licensed to write bail bonds and manage the bail process for defendants. A Bail Fugitive Recovery Agent is licensed specifically to locate and apprehend defendants who have failed to appear in court. This is a separate license created by AB 2043, effective July 1, 2023. Bail agents who hire or supervise fugitive recovery agents must complete additional training beyond the standard 12-hour CE requirement. Our courses cover the regulations affecting both roles.

Why are there test questions throughout the course?

+

California Insurance Code requires completion of an open-book examination as part of continuing education. We've designed our courses with section review questions at the end of each lesson to help you master the material progressively before taking the final exam. When you submit answers to review questions, they're instantly graded. If you answer incorrectly, you'll see an explanation of the correct answer and can immediately resubmit. You must score 70% or higher on review questions before advancing to the next section. This approach helps ensure you understand each topic before moving forward.

What score do I need to pass?

+

You must score 70% or higher on the final examination to pass the course. Both section review questions and the final exam use this 70% passing standard. If you don't pass the final exam on your first attempt, you can retake it as many times as necessary at no additional charge.

CDI Approval & Compliance

Are these courses approved by the Department of Insurance?

+

Yes. BailEdu is a California Department of Insurance approved continuing education provider (Provider Number: XXX). All our courses are specifically approved for bail agent continuing education and meet the 12-hour biennial requirement for license renewal. The CDI will accept these courses when you renew your license.

Do you report course completions to the Department of Insurance?

+

Yes. We electronically submit your course completion to the California Department of Insurance within 24 hours of your successful completion and payment. This is done automatically—you don't need to send anything to the CDI yourself. However, we recommend downloading and saving your completion certificate for your records, as it serves as immediate proof of completion.

Why don't my completed courses appear in the Department of Insurance database immediately after I complete them?

+

While we submit your completion to the CDI within 24 hours, it typically takes the Department of Insurance 3-5 business days to process the submission and update their internal database. During peak renewal periods, this processing time may be longer. Your completion certificate serves as immediate proof of completion. If you need to verify your completion status with the CDI and it's been more than 5 business days, contact our support team and we can provide documentation of our submission.

What do I have to do to renew my bail license?

+

To renew your California bail agent license, you must:

  1. Complete 12 hours of approved continuing education (both of our 6-hour courses)
  2. Submit your license renewal application through the CDI's online portal
  3. Pay the $186 biennial renewal fee to the Department of Insurance
  4. Maintain your surety company relationship and provide proof if requested

Renewal applications should be submitted at least 60 days before your license expiration date. Complete your CE early to avoid last-minute stress.

I did not complete my required continuing education or did not pay my renewal fees before my license expired. What do I have to do to renew my bail license?

+

If your license has expired, you cannot legally conduct bail business until it's renewed. You must still complete the 12-hour continuing education requirement and submit a renewal application with the $186 renewal fee to the Department of Insurance. However, the CDI may assess additional late fees or penalties for expired licenses. Contact the CDI's Bail Unit at (916) 492-3035 for specific guidance on your situation. We recommend completing your CE courses immediately so you're ready to submit your renewal application as soon as possible.

Payment & Pricing

When do I have to pay?

+

You only pay after you complete the entire course and pass the final exam with a score of 70% or higher. There is absolutely no payment required to enroll, access course materials, or take the exam. If you don't pass the exam, you don't pay—you can retake it for free until you pass.

How much does each course cost?

+

Each 6-hour course costs $150.00, payable only after you pass. To complete the full 12-hour requirement, you'll need both courses for a total of $300.00. You can complete them in any order and pay for each course individually after passing.

What payment methods do you accept?

+

We accept all major credit cards including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover. Payment is processed securely through our encrypted payment system immediately after you pass the final exam. Your payment unlocks your certificate and triggers our automatic submission to the CDI.

What is your refund policy?

+

Since you only pay after successfully completing the course and passing the exam, refunds do not apply. You've already received the full service—completed the course, passed the exam, received your certificate, and had your completion submitted to the CDI—before any payment is processed. Our pay-after-pass model eliminates the need for refunds by ensuring you're satisfied with your results before paying.

What if I fail the exam?

+

If you don't achieve the 70% passing score on your first attempt, you can retake the final exam as many times as necessary at no charge. There are no fees for retakes and no time limits. Review the course materials, focus on areas where you struggled, and try again when you're ready. You only pay after you successfully pass.

Certificates & Completion

Do I have to print the course completion certificate?

+

You don't have to print it, but we strongly recommend downloading and saving your completion certificate for your records. Your certificate is available for immediate download after payment and serves as proof of completion. Since we automatically report your completion to the CDI, you typically won't need to submit the certificate to them, but it's useful to have for your files in case any questions arise about your CE status.

What do I do if I lose my certificate?

+

You can log back into your account at any time to re-download your completion certificate. Your course history and certificates remain accessible in your account indefinitely. If you have trouble accessing your account, contact our support team at support@bailedu.com or (123) 456-7890, and we'll help you retrieve your certificate.

Can I get a physical printed certificate?

+

Yes. While your digital certificate is included free with course completion, you can request a professionally printed certificate mailed to your address for an additional $15. This is completely optional—the digital certificate has the same validity as a physical certificate for all licensing purposes.

How long does it take to receive my certificate?

+

Your digital completion certificate is available for immediate download as soon as you complete payment after passing the final exam. There's no waiting—you can access and save your certificate within seconds of finishing the course. If you've ordered an optional physical certificate, allow 7-10 business days for printing and USPS delivery.
